Here’s Petit Verdot flexing its muscles in the Andes — bold, inky, and utterly plush. This Cellar Reserve from Solar del Alma shows off deep black fruit, violet florals, and a lick of dark chocolate and spice, all wrapped in smooth tannins and a long, warming finish. It’s big, but not brash.

Pour a glass when the steak hits the pan or the barbecue’s getting fired up. It’s also cracking with mushroom dishes or a rich lentil and aubergine bake. This is one for slow evenings, proper meals, and not holding back. A proper winter-warmer kind of red, even if you’re drinking it in June.
