Braucol Syrah
Producer: Alain Gayrel
Region: Sud-Ouest, France
Grape varieties: Braucol (Fer Servadou), Syrah
This blend from the Sud-Ouest region brings together the local Braucol grape (also known as Fer Servadou) and Syrah, offering a unique and characterful red wine.
- Appearance: Deep ruby red with purple tints.
- Nose: The nose is expressive, with aromas of ripe red fruits like raspberry, cherry, and redcurrant from the Braucol, alongside black pepper, liquorice, and violet notes from the Syrah. Subtle hints of herbs, tobacco, and earthiness add complexity.
- Palate: Medium-bodied with firm tannins and balanced acidity. The palate offers juicy red fruit flavours from the Braucol, complemented by Syrah’s darker fruit and spicy undertones. There are notes of black pepper, liquorice, and a slight smokiness, with a touch of dried herbs and minerality on the finish.
- Finish: Long and persistent, with lingering red fruit, spice, and a savoury, earthy edge.
Pairing: Pairs well with grilled meats, duck, or hearty casseroles. It also works well with charcuterie and aged cheeses.
Serving suggestion: Serve at 16-18°C and decant for about 30 minutes to allow the wine’s full range of flavours to unfold.
