Seyval Blanc 'GMF', England
We kick things off with an English sparkling wine from an urban winery, Blackbook, which is located in a railway arch in Battersea. Their grapes are sourced from carefully selected growers and they use a minimalist approach, with low-to-zero sulphur and natural yeasts, as they seek to reflect the vibrancy, culture and energy of London in their wines. This textured fizz is buzzing with elderflower, citrus and white pepper notes through to waxy lemon palate with streamlined minerality.
Viognier 'No es Pituko', Chile
a family-run estate combining nearly a century of viticulture and winemaking experience with a modern, state-of-the-art winery. This Viognier is from Valle de Curicó, and is delicately cloudy, reflecting its natural vinification. Peach and tropical fruit aromas are layered with buttery notes and balanced by fresh acidity.
Merlot Blanc 'No Lemon, No Melon', France
This truly unique wine is labelled Vin de France because it hails from Bordeaux but, as a white Merlot, does not adhere to appellation rules. Château Picoron is owned by an Australian family who have converted the winery to being organic, and produce some excellent, rebellious wines! This unique take on Merlot shows delicious white peach, floral and buttery notes.
Carignan 'No es Pituko', Chile
Returning to Viña Echeverría, this Carignan comes from vines in the Valle de Maule region. 'No es Pituko' is Chilean slang for 'it ain't fancy', reflecting the natural vinification of these wines, without any additions at any stage, and has expressive notes of rich plum and ripe black fruits accompanied by subtle spicy notes of cinnamon with a touch of star anise. A fresh palate with fine tannins and subtle earthy tones.
'Basic Instinct' Rouge, France
Located a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean Sea, Villa Noria produces elegant organic wines. The winemaking is traditional, without chemical additions; their natural ‘Basic Instinct’ range is vinified without the addition of sulphur. A ripe, generous Syrah-Merlot blend, it has notes of wild blackcurrant, black cherry and blackberry and a touch of peppery spice. Rounded, smooth and moreish.
