Blind Tasting – White Wines: 21st February

Tasting Notes for the Evening's Wines

At this event we surreptitiously showcased three delicious white wines for our first blind wine tasting experience – an exciting opportunity to test your palate and experience wine in a fun, unique way! Here’s a handy reminder of the wines we all enjoyed; you can purchase them by following the links in the headings.

Ke Bontà Gavi, Italy

A style as classic as it gets! Cortese grapes are grown all over Piemonte, but the vineyards surrounding Gavi itself are considered the best. This wine is light and fresh, with zesty citrus fruit and floral notes, as well as hints of apple and pear. Steely acidity and an underlying mineral character are balanced by notes of melon and stone fruit.

Valdebaron Rioja Blanco, Spain

This 100% Tempranillo Blanco balances the two styles of white Rioja; it's oaked and complex, but still with refreshing green fruit and acidity. Delicate aromas of white flowers are layered with green apple and pear, an elegant creamy texture and a deliciously long and mouthwatering finish.

Rockburn Pinot Gris, New Zealand

A wonderful Pinot Gris from grapes hand-picked from Rockburn's two vineyard sites in Parkburn and Gibbston Valley, showcasing everything that's great about Central Otago white wine. Ripe peach, nectarine and Nashi pear aromas are backed by a hint of spice and a streak of minerality. The vibrantly fruity off-dry palate is layered over a rich and creamy texture.
