The Wee Vinoteca is all about keeping things simple: we have an ever-changing wee range of wines to suit all budgets, a simple menu of snacks to complement them, and a bar that feels like home.
We welcome families, babies and dogs, and look forward to having you over for good wine, good food, and good company.
1. little. – “when I was just a wee bairn”
Duncan grew up in a family where food was at the heart of everything. The Gammies were that kind of family: always having people around for dinner, a barbecue hut with a pizza oven and rotisserie and fields full of family grown produce.
The seeds of the Wee Vinoteca were sown during Duncan’s time as a Sommelier and Assistant Manager of a Michelin starred restaurant in Edinburgh. Not your stereotypical sommelier, he got a kick out of helping people find good value on the 400+ bottle wine list and encouraging them to try more unusual wines, rather than more expensive ones. Pop in the store and spend five minutes chatting with Duncan, you’ll realise not much has changed.
Hannah started out as a Receptionist at a 5-star hotel, before moving to the Event Department and becoming Events & Wedding Manager. She ensures all our events run smoothly, right up until the last guest leaves and the lights go out.
After meeting in Scotland, Hannah and Duncan moved to Hertfordshire. While exploring the area they found the beautiful market town of Hitchin, a hot spot for local foodies and a place that loves to support independent businesses.
